SCORM Compliance. What is it?
Lately SilkWeb has had many people asking for SCORM compliant projects. So I thought I would share a little information on what SCORM is because the majority of people SilkWeb talks to (non-developers) don’t understand it much less know how to define it. They just know they need it! First of all SCORM stands for Shareable Content Object Reference Model. Well that is definitely a mouthful! So how does it break down, what does it really do? SCORM is a collection of standards and specifications for web-based e-learning that make it easy to distribute content over a variety of Learning Management Systems. In a nutshell SCORM tells an LMS how to interpret the content and in what order it is launched. What SCORM has nothing to do with window size, cosmetic appearances, reporting… these items belong to the LMS or the content, and are not controlled by SCORM at all. So that is the basics of what SCORM is, what it does, and what it doesn’t do. If you have questions please feel free to post on the blog!
